IPR GROUP Annual seminar took place in Kiev

The third annual seminar, organized by the IPR Group and Ukrainian Chamber of Patent Attorneys, took place in Kyiv on November 21, 2014.

The practicing specialists in the field of intellectual property rights protection from Germany, Hungary, Russia and Belarus were invited as the guest speakers.

The program of the workshop covered the following topics:

“The 10th anniversary of the Community design. The main features of the preparation and examination of the Community design applications”. The Guest Speaker – Mr. Eckard Nachtwey, managing partner of the Nachtwey IP, Germany.

“The latest changes in the Russia patent legislation”. The Guest Speaker – Mr. Vladimir Rybin, patent attorney, Russia. Within the framework of the report the seminar attendees were informed about the recent changes in the requirements of the RPTO to the applications for inventions and industrial designs, as well as methodological approaches of the RPTO to the examination of such applications.

“How to protect an invention in Europe, using the example of Germany”. The Guest Speaker – Mr. Klaus Latzel, managing partner of the Latzel IP, Germany. Besides the familiarizing the audience with the features of the registration of inventions in the operating patent system of the EU, Dr. Latzel also talked about the unitary patent, that is new type of European patent that would be valid in participating member states of the European Union soon.

“Community trademark”. The Guest Speaker – Mr. Marton Csirik, legal adviser of the Georg Pintz & Partners, Hungary. Mr. Csirik started from talking about the CTMs in general and then presented the computer program that allows to monitor the use of the trademarks in the internet as well as the possible infringements of the rights for registered trademarks.

“Protection of the rights to the inventions, utility models and industrial designs in the Republic of Belarus. Examples from the practice of the Court and Appeal Board”. The Guest Speaker – Ms. Veronika Shypitsa, Attorney at Law of the LexPatent, Belarus.

The Speakers answered numerous questions of the seminar participants. In-house IP counsels of the manufacturing companies, which attended the seminar, had a great opportunity to share and discuss their expectations from the cooperation with patent attorneys and to be aware of the necessary steps for the registration of the rights for intellectual property for entering the foreign markets.

The program of the seminar was closed with the Dinner in an informal and relaxed environment that gave an opportunity to encourage a positive corporate atmosphere among the Community of patent attorneys.
