Priority Deadline: For filing of a Utility Model Application in Uzbekistan with claiming priority, the application would have to be filed within twelve (12) months from the priority date. A certified copy of the priority application should be filed with the UzPTO within three (3) months following the application filing date.

Novelty Period: The novelty grace period for a Utility Model in Uzbekistan is twelve (12) months after the disclosure of the Utility Model and before application filing or date of earliest priority if priority is claimed.

Representation: A foreign client must be represented at the Uzbekistan Patent office by a registered Uzbekistan Patent Attorney.

Translation: Application materials should be translated and filed in the Russian language or in Uzbek.

Formal Examination: The process for the examination of Utility Applications in Uzbekistan includes a formal examination within six (6) to twelve (12) months for the crosschecking of required documentation. In the case of accurate documentation, a notification of the positive outcome of the formal examination will be issued.

Substantive Examination: A substantive examination can be requested by the applicant within three (3) months from the date of notification of the positive outcome of the formal examination. If the Utility Model Application meets the requirements for patentability, then a positive decision on the grant will be issued.

Duration: The procedure for registration usually takes twelve (12) months in case of smooth registration.

Maintenance: Maintenance fees are required to be paid annually with annuity for the following year being made in the current year of validity. A failure to pay maintenance fees can result in the cancellation of the patent.

Fees: The grant is issued after payment of the relevant issuance, publication and annuity fees. The term for payment is three (3) months after the date of the receipt of the decision.

Validity: In Uzbekistan a Utility Model is valid for five (5) years from the date of filing, extendable by three (3) years.

Required documents for Filing a Short-Term Patent Application in Uzbekistan:

  • Applicant’s information (name and address);
  • Inventor’s information (name and address);
  • Description, claims, abstract and drawings, disclosing the utility model;
  • Original of the POA signed by applicant(s). Notarization or Legalization is not required.
