This month IPR GROUP Attorneys attended the GRUR annual meeting in Berlin. After 7 years it was great to have the meeting back in the capital of Germany.
As usual the agenda was promising and responding the priority needs. The session on Copyright and Design Law studied the overlaps in European copyright and design law as well as the experience of Duch, UK and German related to the sphere. In parallel the issues of comparison of proceedings before German patent courts and the UPC, handling the FRAND defence in proceedings before the UPC as compared with German national law, and comparison of nullity proceedings before the UPC and before national courts, the advantages and disadvantages of an integrated approach versus bifurcation, were explored on the sections for participated patent attorneys. Part of the time was picked out for WIPO and AIPPI special sections as well as for Antitrust and Copyright Laws.
A separate section of the meeting was dedicated to the modern and popular matter of Artificial Intelligence: how legal professionals in the IP sector can use AI tools effectively and safely, which raised an intensive discussion among participants during the section and after it. Trademark registration aspects were not included in the meeting agenda this year.
The gala evening was full of nice surprises. The dinner was served at the restaurant on the roof of Reichstag. The participants were allowed to walk around the entire building, to see the Parliament Hall from the top and to try delicious dishes and have a warm evening communication taking in the beauty of evening Berlin.
We are greatly appreciated outstanding level of organization of the event, its atmosphere, high-quality presentations, open discussions and the opportunity to network with IP professionals.
