Training “Expectations of in-house Counsels from Patent Attorneys”

The IPR Group was pleased to host our colleague and dear friend Mr. Werner Staufer, a recognized German patent attorney who has served for years as an in-house counsel for a number of German industry giants.

During the presentation on the topic of “Expectations of in-house counsels from foreign patent attorneys” Mr. Staufer shared with the IPR GROUP team, his experience of being an in-house counsel, the responsibilities and challenges involved, as well as methods for efficient interaction with foreign patent attorneys who process patent applications in their countries. Mr. Staufer stated clearly, the expectations of reporting on office actions, as well as efficient time- and cost-effective Attorney/Client business communication expected by in-house patent counsels managing large Patent and Trademark portfolios.

He also touched on the trends of legal cost-cutting and globalization of business, within which an in-house counsel must find ways to expand coverage, get up-to-speed on global issues that affect the company, and adequately provide cross-border legal and global compliance advice.

The IPR Group received valuable legal practice training correlating to the requirements of in-house patent counsels and understanding recent changes in the professional landscape.

We thank Mr. Staufer for his visit and contribution to the upgrade of our expertise.

We welcome international IP practitioners to our offices for the exchange of business insight and accumulation of the best IP practices.
